This 400 – 455 mm long species lives in land, tall and secondary forests, mixed tree plantations, partially cultivated area, from primary lowland rainforest to 4000 feet. Collared mongoose can be found in Borneo (Sabah, Serawak, Brunei, Kalimantan) and also Sumatra. Scientist still can’t define whether the rarity of this species is natural or due to human threats.
Due to very little information about collared mongoose, it is classified as Data Deficient by IUCN Red List.
