For three decades, the WCS Indonesia Program has built strong partnerships with the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry, providing technical support for the conservation of wildlife and wild places, as well as strengthening the effectiveness of management in conservation areas covering 3.972.564 hectares. This network of conservation areas is part of “nature’s strongholds,” encompassing nature reserves and protected areas, including ten national parks and one wildlife sanctuary, that serve as natural habitat for Indonesia’s most critically endangered and endemic species. Using an evidence-based conservation approach supported by technology, including rangers' patrols using the Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool (SMART), implementing the Integrated Prevention Model (IPM) to address strategic challenges, and engaging local communities, WCS Indonesia Program continues to carry out its mission to ensure these vital ecosystems remain safe havens for Indonesia’s biodiversity.
