Job Summary:
Assist the implementation WCS Marine Program in West Nusa Tenggara Province to improve management effectiveness of MPA and sustainable fisheries management.
Tasks:
The employee will work with the Fisheries Coordinator and WNT Coordinator and other staff to:
- Working closely with local communities, community leaders, fishers groups, fish collectors and other stakeholders to developing and implementing WCS objectives to achieve a sustainable fisheries system.
- Coordinate to fishermen, private sector and other stakeholders to establish fishery system (traceability, quality and sustainability) in order to develop sustainable fisheries by conducting training / workshops / meetings with groups of fishermen, private sector and other stakeholders in Saleh bay.
- Collecting vessel data in Saleh Bay area, Cempi Bay, Waworada Bay and Sape Bay to support sustainable fisheries management.
- Provide any data and information as needed by Science Monitoring Coordinator, Fisheries Coordinator, MPA Coordinator, and Seascape Coordinator.
- Organise and facilitate meeting (formal and informal) at village and sub-district level.
- Assist monitoring and science coordinator, Fisheries Coordinator, MPA coordinator and seascape coordinator in coordination and consultation with the MPA management authorities, provincial and district authorities, local NGOs to develop marine protected area management effectiveness.
- Provide support in project implementation as needed.
Expectations/Roles:
- To assist in all aspects of field-work and data assimilation as required by any team member.
- All team members will be expected to assist in the day to day co-ordination of field logistics.
- Participate in internal and external meetings as required.
- Participate in design, data entry, data analysis, interpretation and report writing.
- Participate and prepare budget and finance reports as required.
- At all times have a considerate, generous and helpful approach with all team members.
Field Work: General
- Assist in the preparation of the field equipment.
- Help with the washing down of the diving and scientific equipment with fresh water and storage for safe keeping at the end of each day.
- Enter all data collected that day into pre-prepared spreadsheets on computers.
- Assist the chief scientists in analyzing data and report writing at the end of each data collection period (approximately one month). Training in data analysis and report writing will be provided.
Reports and Deliverables:
The employee will provide to the Fisheries Coordinator the following material on the following schedule:
- Daily activity reports (verbal).
- Monthly activity reports
- Quarterly activity reports.
- Annual team and personal work plan.
- Semi-annually and annual general activity reports.
- Computer files and directories that summarize the office activity and correspondence (backed up on a monthly basis).
- Other outputs requested by the Fisheries Coordinator as needed.
