Position : Consultant – Ichtyoplankton Distribution

Background
The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Indonesia Marine Program aims to conserve marine and coastal resources vital to the protection and sustainability of human livelihoods across the Indonesian archipelago from the Bay of Bengal through to the heart of the Coral Triangle. WCS employs a rigorous scientific approach to build capacity, strengthen management and inspire community stewardship for the protection and sustainable use of critical marine ecosystems, fisheries and threatened species. This dynamic and rapidly growing program has three core objectives: (1) to establish and increase the management effectiveness of 1 million hectares of MPAs in seascapes in Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, and the Sunda-Banda sea; (2) sustainable management of coastal fisheries in and around networks of MPAs; and (3) conservation of threatened marine species, particularly sharks and rays, through improving the sustainability of fisheries and trade, and combatting illegal trade in protected species.
Job summary
WCS Indonesia is seeking a consultant who will provide technical expertise in ichtyoplankton study. The study will be part of in-depth studies to develop offshore MPA in Sulawesi Sea. with financial support from the German Development Bank (KfW). The position will report to the Cross Cutting Program Manager and work closely with the Offshore MPA Specialist and Indonesia Marine Program team. The position will provide all aspects related with the study and data integration with the other in-depth studies.
Specific Technical Responsibilities
- Develop adequate and feasible survey design for ichtyplankton study and assist all preparation aspect for the survey in Sulawesi Sea
- Conduct the ichtyoplankton survey and take charge of the sample handling and analysis
- Provide ichtyoplankton data and collaborate the data with other in-depth studies
- Present the study result and participate in discussions and meetings related with Offshore MPA development
- Working together with offshore MPA specialist and other experts in the development of offshore MPA
The consultant will work from February – November 2020, with the following output schedule:
