Period/Effective as per : 6 month/PKWT B with possibility of extension
Overview
The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) has a distinguished history of experts exploring and saving wildlife in some of the most remote and wild places remaining on Earth. WCS Indonesia Program (WCS-IP) has significantly grown over the last decades, and contributed substantially in supporting the Government of Indonesia (GoI), particularly Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF) in conserving Indonesia’s biodiversity. WCS-IP currently has programs focusing on landscape/seascape conservation, species conservation actions and engaging local communities.
In Taka Bonerate WCS-IP is currently working closely with conservation authorities, Balai Taman Nasional Taka Bonerate (BTNTB) and the local governments to enhance conservation initiatives and encourage communities in the areas to practice sustainable natural resources and increase their knowledge of conservation area and increase conservation incentives for local communities
To achieve our overall goal of saving wildlife and wild places, WCS-IP is currently seeking for qualified candidates for community officer. The main responsibilities of the community officer to ensure national park management program, encourage the community to understand the objectives of national park management and supporting sustainable fisheries management in the Taka Bonerate National Park.The community officer report directly to the communitu senior officer with close coordination with the national park senior coordinator and other field program staff in Taka Bonerate fied office.
Responsibilities:
Communication key:
- Collecting fisheries data from fish landing monitoring in the Taka Bonerate National Park (TBNP) monitoring area.
- Entering and uploading data from fish landing monitoring into the available database platform of the WCS Indonesia Fisheries Program.
- Guiding, building capacity, and collaborating with local enumerators at fish landing monitoring locations in TBNP to meet standards and adopt practices related to data collection
- Working closely with Village Government, local communities, community leaders, fishers groups, and other stakeholders to developing and implementing WCS objectives to achieve a management effectiveness of Marine National Park and suistainable fisheries system.
- Coordinate to Head of Villages, fishermen, private sector and other stakeholders to establish a management effectiveness of Marine National Park and suistainable fisheries in order to ensure villages rules and implement an alternative livelihood
- Organise and facilitate meeting (formal and informal), training /workshop /meeting, building Capacity at village and sub-district level.
- Provide support in project implementation as needed.
Expectations/Roles:
- To assist in all aspects of field-work and data assimilation as required by any team member.
- All team members will be expected to assist in the day to day co-ordination of field logistics.
- Participate in internal and external meetings as required.
- Participate in design, data entry, data analysis, interpretation and report writing.
- Participate and prepare budget and finance reports as required.
- At all times have a considerate, generous and helpful approach with all team members
Reports and Deliverables:
The employee will provide to the National Park Coordinator the following material on the following schedule:
- Daily activity reports (verbal).
- Monthly activity reports
- Quarterly activity reports.
- Annual team and personal work plan.
- Semi-annually and annual general activity reports.
- Other outputs requested by the Coordinator as needed.
General

- Participate wholeheartedly in the general activities of WCS-IP particularly events and activities that require the full support and participation of all staff members, whether or not the focus of any particular event or activity has any bearing on the job description and assigned project objectives and activities.
- Undertake any other duties as assigned by supervisor and line management coordination if required.
Requirements
- At least having 2 years experience in communty development, MPA and Fisheries management.
- Graduated from marine science, fisheries.
- Knowledge and/or experience in community developmen, MPA and fisheries management
- An ability to communicate with board range of people and finding solutions of problems.
- Good interpersonal skills to deal with a diverse group of contacts (including local stakeholders and communities), and ability to be a team player.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Indonesian and English.
- Aptitude in the use of a MS spread sheet and words, skill in database will be an advantage.
- Having experiences working in South Sulawesi will be an advantage.
